Friday 1 April 2022 District Football Success The Aldershot Schools Football set up has achieved huge success in recent years having been crowned Champions in 2015, 2018 & 2021 as well as runners up in 2019. With a smaller pool of schools to choose from than many other Districts, the success has been remarkable and looks set to continue this season!

Tuesday 15 March 2022 Romeo & Juliet 2022 Shakespeare Schools Theatre Festival is a cultural education project that supports young people to perform abridged Shakespeare plays on professional theatre stages. On Wednesday 9th February 2022, Wavell’s cast went to the South Hill Arts Park Centre in Bracknell for their performance of ‘Romeo & Juliet.’

Monday 14 March 2022 Gremlin Dance Challenge 2022 It was with great excitement that we entered the Gremlin Dance Competition this year following a 2 year break due to COVID.

Tuesday 8 March 2022 Intermediate Maths Challenge 2022 On Thursday 3rd February, the Mathematics students the top two sets in Years 9 & 10 participated in the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge. The Challenge is organised by U.K. Mathematics Trust and was taken by more than 250,000 students from over 3000 schools across the country.The aim of the challenges is to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

Monday 7 March 2022 Wavell World Book Day 2022 Heroes and Villains was the theme for our celebration of World Book Day this year and there was a fabulous response from the whole school. Over 50 members of staff created amazing costumes for the Fancy Dress competition. The triumphant winners were the Science team with their Alice in Wonderland theme. Special mention went to one of our IT technicians, Mr Street, for his wonderful T-Rex costume.

Monday 14 February 2022 Rushmoor Community Fund We were delighted to be awarded £1000 from Rushmoor Community Fund to improve an area of our grounds and to install a ‘Happy to Chat’. The fund is bolstered by monies from the Rushmoor Community Lottery which many of you play and have listed us as your ‘good cause’ so in effect we benefit twice as we also receive 50% of the tickets sales which we use to help finance our two mini-buses.

Monday 8 November 2021 Platinum Jubilee Medal On February 6th 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will have reigned for a record-breaking 70 years. This will be her Platinum Jubilee, an event that has never been seen before in British or world history and is unlikely to be seen again. To commemorate this historic royal event Tower Mint are proud to present the Platinum Jubilee commemorative issue exclusively for schools and councils.

Wednesday 21 July 2021 House Sport Summer 2021 After a year of not being able to run extra-curricular PE clubs and fixtures, this summer term has seen each of the four Year Groups compete in a series of sporting competitions to be crowned House Sport Summer Champions for 2021.

Thursday 1 July 2021 Wavell Student Voice Former Wavell Deputy Head Prefect (2019 Leaver), Bethan Hoggan has been continuing to use her voice to speak for the young people of Britain. The Education Committee held a session with children and young people to hear about their experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact it has had on their futures. The young people, aged between 13 and 18, spoke about their different experiences over the past year and how lockdown has affected both their learning and wellbeing.

Thursday 1 July 2021 SATRO STEM Day On 17th June 12 Year 10 students took part in a SATRO STEM Challenge Day. The day started with a summary of job descriptions from professionals of various different careers. They explained their choice of careers and the obstacles they encountered throughout their journey.

Dressed as reindeer, elves or Santas, students completed a minimum of 20 minutes lapping around the school site, even the staff joined in. It was a wonderful sight to see!

Thursday 14 May 2020 Year 9 Lockdown Poetry As a piece of remote English learning Year 9 have looked at various news articles about the environment and studied a speech by Greta Thunberg. They also looked at three poems by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage (the Pelaton, The Last Snowman and Lockdown) and were then asked to use all these sources as inspiration for their own poems which expressed their feelings and ideas about today’s world.

Sponsored by Fluor, the event was designed to allow girls to find out about different careers, meet and interact with female role models who are already working with the STEM industries and dispel myths about working in these areas.

They completed their final assessed expedition during which they independently navigated and camped out in the Surrey Hills.

Friday 15 March 2019 Wavell Dancers Excel In the face of adversity Wavell KS3 dancers won the award for 'Best Costume' and 3rd place overall at the 2019 Gremlin Dance Challenge, held at the Princes Hall on Thursday 14th March. This is a massive achievement because of the problems they faced with cast numbers and injury.

Thursday 14 March 2019 Eco-Land Project 2019 Two groups of Year 7 students were chosen to take part in the annual Eco-Land Project. After weeks of hard work, they presented their ideas to a panel of judges in the Final at Farnborough Sixth Form College on 13th March 2019.

Tuesday 5 March 2019 FLUOR Competition After a lot of lunchtime preparation five Year 10 students attended the annual Fluor Engineering Competition on Thursday 14th February 2019 where they created two Volleyball machines which were engineered to fire and catch a ping pong ball across a net. Wavell presented one of the most creative machines and came 4th out of 7 Schools in the local area. It was an extremely fun and competitive evening.

Tuesday 5 March 2019 Year 11 Food Masterclass On Tuesday 26th February the Year 11 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students had the privilege of watching a Masterclass presented by ex –Wavell student James Spray.

Tuesday 26 February 2019 Day of Dance Wednesday 13th February 2019 saw a new adventure to the calendar – a Day of Dance for Year 9 students who may be interested in taking GCSE Dance. 30 students took part in the day creating their own choreography based on a work by Rambert Contemporary Dance Company. Which was then performed to an enthusiastic group of Year 7 students.

Monday 25 February 2019 Shakespeare Schools Festival 18-19 Two enjoyable performances of 12th Night(slightly more traditional in its presentation) and The Tempest (seen from a slightly different perspective of the magical Island and Caliban), were well received by the respective audiences on the 31st of January 2019 and the snow delayed 7th February 2019.

Friday 15 February 2019 Language Theatre Visit Valentine’s Day is normally a day of spreading love and positive feeling however, on 14th February 2019, students of German witnessed the love/hate relationship of two sisters in the German play “So eine Nervensäge” produced by the Onatti Theatre Company. Wavell Main Hall was once again transformed into a theatre where students in Years 8, 9 and 11 were treated to a professional performance from ‘Hannah’ and ‘Lydia’.
