The Wavell School

Year 7

Judging Progress

Year 7 – Mastery

There are three academic reports for Year 7 students in the school year – Christmas, Easter and Summer. Students will receive one of three grades– Developing, Securing or Mastering – for each subject.

Departments define specifically the Mastery descriptors in their subject, which can be found below. Students will use these grids in lessons so that they know what level they are currently working at and what they can do to improve.

Year 7 KS3 Mastery Descriptors

Our aim is to ensure that all students are ‘securing’ by the end of the academic year. This means they are on track to achieve at least a Grade 5 at GCSE if they continue making the same level of progress every year.

Progress Reviews

Progress Reviews provide parents and students with a summary of their progress in school since the last report. We report three times a year against 4 criteria

  • Current Progress
  • Attitude to Learning
  • Behaviour
  • Homework

Further information

Each criteria for Attitude to Learning, Behaviour and Homework, is judged against a 4 point scale linked to a colour. Blue is Wavell Way, Green is Good, Amber is Inconsistent and Red is poor. Please see the Reporting Criteria below for detailed descriptions of each criteria.

Current Progress

This is a summary of the progress they have made based upon assessments and tests carried out since the last Progress Review.

Attitude to Learning

This is a summary of the way in which they approach their learning and the effort they make in lessons within that subject.

Behaviour

This is a summary of the behaviour of the student in lessons within that subject.

Homework

This is a summary to indicate their effort and completion of homework in that subject.
