Year 11 Students Explore Their Futures at Life After Wavell Event

On Wednesday 23rd October 2026, we were delighted to host our annual Life After Wavell event, providing Year 11 students with valuable guidance and inspiration as they begin to consider their post-16 pathways.
The morning brought together over ten post-16 providers and career facilitators, giving students the opportunity to learn about a wide range of opportunities available after GCSEs. Students began by hearing presentations from Farnborough Sixth Form College, Farnborough College of Technology, and Careers at Wavell before visiting provider stalls to explore courses, apprenticeships, and future career routes in more detail.
Our Year 11 students represented the school exceptionally well throughout the event. They engaged confidently with providers, asked thoughtful and insightful questions, and demonstrated a genuine interest in their future options.

Grant from Activate Learning praised the quality of the students’ questioning, while Graham from City & Guilds commented on how polite, well-mannered, and engaged they were when discussing the opportunities available to them. Cait from All Hallows Catholic College wrote to say 'They were engaged and polite and generally really enthusiastic about the next steps of their education'.

We were also pleased to welcome representatives from Godalming College, Basingstoke College of Technology, Army Careers, Guildford College, Complete Academy and SCL Education Group. Although Collingwood College Sixth Form and Queen Mary’s College were unable to attend this year, they kindly provided information for students to take away and explore.

Building the Wavell Community
A special thank you goes to three of our Year 9 students; Jasmine, William and Hareem who volunteered to support the event. Throughout the morning, they played an important role in ensuring our guests received a warm Wavell welcome and were well looked after. Their professionalism, confidence, and willingness to help were a credit to themselves and the school, demonstrating the strong sense of community that we are proud to foster at Wavell.
The next step for our Year 11 students is to continue researching the wide range of post-16 opportunities available and to attend open evenings and taster events over the coming weeks. These experiences will help them make informed decisions about the pathway that is right for them.
A huge thank you to all of our visiting providers for supporting our students and helping them take the next steps towards a successful future. We look forward to hearing about the exciting destinations and opportunities our Year 11 students choose as they prepare for life beyond Wavell.
