The Wavell School

We will Remember Them

On Sunday 9th November 2025 two of our students, Kate and Autumn, represented the Army Youth Voice, along with Mr Blunden and Mr Clifford-Franklin who represented the School, at the Garrison Remembrance Service.

On Tuesday 11th November the whole school came together to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve in times of conflict. Students and staff gathered in the Quad for a moving rendition of the Last Post by Charlie followed by two minutes silence. Meanwhile, Year 7 & 8 remembrance poppies adorned Main Reception and many of our Cadets and Scouts proudly wore their uniforms to show their support.

In Elevate lessons, using the Rushmoor Roll of Honour that records details of the soldiers from Aldershot who died in the Battle of the Somme, students chose someone from the list for their 'remember a soldier' activity. Using the research, they looked up the soldier on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website and then downloaded and printed out a Certificate of Commemoration. These were displayed around the map of Aldershot and, where possible, the place where the soldier had lived was marked.

We are proud of how our school community came together in respect and unity to honour this important day.
