Madrid 2026

On 30th January, a group of Year 11 Spanish students went on a long weekend to Madrid to immerse themselves in the Spanish culture and language.

Report by Charlie W...

On Friday 30th January we woke up bright and early in the morning and went to the airport to all get breakfast - I had an amazing scrambled egg! Once we arrived in Madrid we were unfortunately stuck in the airport for a while due to some people's bags being lost but we finally arrived at the hostel to drop off our bags. Firstly we went to the Royal palace and enjoyed a self-guided tour and took lots of photos. later we went shopping , to a buffet place for dinner and for a night walk around Madrid before heading back for our first night at the hostel.

On the Saturday we woke up at around 8am for breakfast before going to the Santiago Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid, where we took a tour through the trophy rooms, the pitch and gift shop. Later that day we visited Las Ventas, the most important bull ring in the world, where we learnt about the history, traditions and how bull fighting works. After having some churros at San Gines we went shopping and to an Italian restaurant before returning to the hostel.

On Sunday we visited El Rastro market and we given a list of things to find with 20 Euros to buy them. As fun as it was, there was torrential rain throughout the day!

Following that we went to Fox in a Box Escape Rooms and in groups of 4-6 took part in a bank heist, serial killers chasing people, a wild west set rescue of a chicken and a prison break! All were awesome but the bank heist was the best!

On the final day we went to the Museo Reina Sofia, an incredibly famous art museum in Madrid with artist such as Picasso and Salvador Dali featuring inside. After more shopping and walking around for a few hours we headed to the airport for our journey home...and that was the end of our incredible Madrid trip!
