Aim of the Geography Curriculum

The aim of the geography curriculum is to promote curiosity about the world, inspire wonder and passion, to see links and inter-relationships and to appreciate world issues in an informed and engaged way.  At an individual student level, geography aims for students understand that the world is constantly changing, that they make choices that are affected these changes and are affected by these changes.

The knowledge the students will have by the end of the course:

Geography is the understanding of the world, how and why it is the way it is.  It is also about how the world changes and how these changes affect people and the planet.  By the end of KS3 students should understand the main physical and human processes and understand the interconnections and interdependencies between the different some elements.

Students will also have the ability to apply skills and understanding learnt in geography and core subjects (mainly maths and science) to interpret information and to apply this understanding developing the confidence to express their opinions supported by evidence.

By the end of KS4 students deepen this knowledge and are able to apply their understanding to unfamiliar contexts with increasing confidence and clarity.
