Health & Social Care is an optional subject that can be taken in KS4
Aim of the Health & Social Care Curriculum
Cambridge National Health and Social Care is designed for Key Stage 4 students who have an interest in the care industry and wish to develop their skills and learn the theory that can prepare them for further study and employment with the health and social care sector.
Students will be encouraged to:
- develop learning and practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations
- think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically
- develop independence and confidence in using skills that would be relevant to the childcare sector and more widely
develop transferable skills such as evaluation, planning, presentation/delivery and research skills
The knowledge the students will have by the end of the course:
Students will understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of:
- the rights of individuals and person-centred values and how to apply these when working with service users
- the importance of effective communication
- how to protect individuals through infection prevention, safeguarding and safety and security measures
- growth and development through the life stages
- different life events that could affect individuals, and how to support individuals through them
