Welcome to Design and Technology

Design and Technology is studied by all students in KS3 and is an optional subject in KS4

Aim of the Design and Technology Curriculum

  • Experiencing a range of different material areas through investigation, problem solve, design, make and evaluate.
  • Development of transferable and practical life skills preparing them for an increasing technological and sustainable world

The knowledge the students will have by the end of the course:

  • A knowledge and understanding of a range of different materials, and development of practical life skills that allows them to be a critical consumer.
  • To understand and apply the design and problem-solving process.

Some recent highlights from the Design & Technology Department:

Festive Bakes

Our Year 9s have been busy spreading festive cheer (and a lot of icing!)
From Christmas cupcakes to delicious biscuits, their Food Tech lesson was full of Christmas creativity.

 Year 8

Our Year 8 Textile students have been getting crafty this term! Their challenge was designing and testing bag templates made of newspaper! They were very proud to show off their designs and we can't wait to see the finished products... 

Zombie Apocalypse Club

We saw the club members trying to make solar cookers which ended up cooking apples and marshmallows with reflectors and light bulbs! Let's hope they don't need to put their skills into practice any time soon!!

Pizza Week

Year 7 have been getting stuck in during
Pizza Week in Food Tech!

From classic combos to some seriously creative toppings, the results all looked and smelt delicious!
