Food Preparation and Nutrition
Food Preparation and Nutrition is an optional subject that can be taken in KS4
The Aim of the Food Preparation and Nutrition Curriculum
- Equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to cook and apply principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating, enabling them to make informed choices about diet and health throughout life.
- Develop practical cookery skills and confidence, fostering creativity and problem-solving while preparing students for further study, careers in food-related industries, and lifelong healthy eating habits.
The knowledge the students will have by the end of the course:
- Understand the principles of nutrition, food science, and food safety, including the functions of nutrients, dietary needs, chemical properties of ingredients, and safe storage and preparation practices.
- Apply knowledge through practical cookery skills, planning and producing a range of dishes while considering food provenance, sustainability, and cultural, ethical, and health-related factors.

Year 10 Food students have been sharpening their skills by learning to fillet fish like pros! They also whipped up a creamy, homemade mayonnaise to perfectly complement their fresh fillets.
