Dear Sob Sisters

Welcome to The Wavell Truth

Welcome to the first edition of the Wavell School's student newspaper, 'The Wavell Truth'.  The Newspaper Club was set up in January 2017 and members have been working hard to design and set up the online newspaper.

The Club decided to open a competition to Wavell students, to give them a chance to name the newspaper, and create a logo for it. This competition offered its winner a ten pounds voucher and certificate, and the winner was chosen by Mrs. Rowley! She presented the winners with their prize during Year 8 assembly on 21st March – a massive well done to our very own Oliva Hale and Holly Graham for the name and logo which is proudly sitting at the top of the page!

About Newspaper Club

By Aisha Wood

The Newspaper Club is a club that gives year 8s an opportunity to find out about and express their opinions on matters that are going on around the school.

I spoke to one of the members of the Club, Megan Hodges, about what it is like to have the opportunity to write articles and interview people for the Newspaper.

She said that “It is great to have the opportunity to make my opinion known, and to feel like I’m making a difference to the school. However, it can be daunting knowing that many people can access what I am writing. It can also be daunting because I am very self-conscious and in Newspaper Club you have to do a lot of interviewing which can be scary if you don’t have a lot of confidence.”

Other members of the club told us – among other things – that it was a motivational, exciting, inspirational and enjoyable way to spend their lunch.

Newspaper Club is for year 8, Thursday lunchtime, C2.3
