Year 9 & 10 Trip to Rhineland

On Sunday 9th April 2017, 43 Year 9 and 10 students of German and 5 teachers travelled to Boppard in Germany to take part in the biennial Rhineland trip organised by the Languages Faculty. During the 4 night stay, students visited the medieval castle of Marksburg, admired the beauty of the towns of Koblenz and Rudesheim and also went to the Phantasialand theme park.

All the students and staff involved had a fantastic time photographing the breath-taking views, shopping for presents in Rudesheim, exploring the town of Koblenz during our town trail, relaxing on a Rhine river cruise, sampling traditional German food whenever we stopped and trying out our German language skills.

The trip also included a trip to a bowling alley and a quiz night, where the competitive side of staff and students became very obvious. Students also brushed up their stone-skipping skills at the edge of the Rhine. The only rain was overnight or whilst we were on the coach, so we were able to spend evenings outside as well. Many students felt that the trip helped their confidence when speaking German and commented “I would definitely recommend this trip. I am sad we have to leave!”

The students were excellent ambassadors for the school and were commended for their behaviour and good manners wherever we went, “This group has restored our faith in teenagers” was a favourite quote from immigration at the Channel Tunnel on our return home. A huge thank-you to all involved with the trip and especially the students for their amazing behaviour and attitude throughout the trip.
