Wavell Café

Grand Opening!

On Tuesday 12th September 2017 The Wavell School celebrated the ‘Grand Opening’ of the new rebranded Wavell Café.

The Lead Association for CAtering in Education (LACA) Chair, Foodservice Consultants Society International UK &Ireland (FCSI) Chair and LACA partners visited the school to celebrate the transformation of the Year 7 C Block Hall and the Main School Hall eating areas. All who visited took part in the whole secondary school lunch experience.

The Wavell school entered and won a competition with LACA and the FCSI UK & Ireland. The competition offered a secondary school in the UK an opportunity to get support in reviewing and implementing improvements to their catering operation and facilities. The support package included full consultation services; marketing and maximising display; operations and efficiencies in better use of resources; customer care training; décor and presentation of food service areas and food quality, nutrition and style to meet modern day customer expectations.

As part of the award we rebranded our logo and two YR11 students received a prize for their winning ‘Wavell Café’ design ideas which were used to create the final signs.  The Head Boy and Head Girl cut the ribbon and the School Council were on hand to chat with all who visited.

We have received many donations form LACA partners which include allergen accreditation, a cooker and dishwasher, 6 serving units, graphics for both halls, new tables, chairs, cutlery and tray units, multi-tiered hot boxes, fruit stands and many hours of consultancy.

The partnership between The Wavell School and all the companies that have taken part in this award has been fantastic and we are very grateful for all the support received from the Catering industry.

As a member of duty staff it is a pleasure to see YR7 sitting for a proper meal and as a parent of a junior school aged child (who I hope will join the Wavell) it’s very reassuring to see the nurturing environment which I imagine, when joining a large secondary school, could be a very challenging part of the day!   What an excellent transition for them all from the Junior School lunchtime environment.
